The earlier Bro. James Map 1946NB This is a very large file, it would make a good colour photo.
Familiar to all who those who hung around the radiators during breaks, this a phenomenal item, with the names of boys from the school being added up until the late 'fifties all around the edge. The field names, footpaths and other details are all there. Bro James finished most of it in 1947. It was vandalised by some herbert twenty years later, and then restored by Bro James in 1968. The map is currently on view at Hedley Lodge, Belmont Abbey. We have tried to present it in as much detail as possible, but if you want to get right into it, get yourself a decent wide magnifying glass, book into Hedley Lodge, and enjoy this fascinating item, Belmonts Mappa Mundi! It measures about 4 1/2 x 5 feet.
Above is the whole map in grid form, each page overlaps it's neighbours.
