Welcome to the Drama page |
From it's opening, school productions were presented the Old Gym. I saw Toad of Toad Hall there in 1959, poop poop, great! The Old Gym was a grim dark shed with lockers around the edge, that smelled oddly, and to see it transformed into a Theatre was brilliant. Films were shown on a wednesday evening, there was a passage past the projectors at the back that led to the Junior Locker room and the Tuck Shop. When the Theatre opened in the new building in 1960, the possibilities for Drama at Belmont were explored to the full. Special thanks to D Jerome Hodkinson, photographer for most productions from the fifties onwards. Jonathan 'Sparks' Agutter, Edward P Harding, John Fenner, Philomena Hearn nee Preston, and Tif and Jenny Harris for scanning pics from Belmont productions in the seventies, and to Geoff Garvey for the 'forties collection.
